racetrack slots on the way23 Aug 2005
Maine gambling regulators on Thursday are to decide whether to grant final licenses to allow slot machines in Bangor. The Gambling Control Board was to hear the results of background checks on Penn National Gaming Inc., which is seeking a license to operate slots. Penn National has held a conditional slots operator license since last November. They now have plans to open an interim gaming facility, Hollywood Slots, in a former Bangor restaurant. Its on schedule to open in November, with 475 slot machines. Penn National plans to replace that facility with a permanent one housing up to 1,500 machines at Bangor Raceway. Looming in the background is a citizen initiative campaign seeking to gather enough voter signatures to force a referendum next year on whether a 2003 statewide vote authorizing slots should be overturned. |
