Empire Poker Doubles Free Poker Offerings6 Feb 2005
After years of holding two $500 daily free tournaments, Empire
Poker has doubled their free poker output by adding two additional
free entry tournaments each with a $500 prize pool. Free poker
watchdog website SweetFreerolls announced that the new tournaments
launched February 1, and have been running smoothly. These free
poker tournaments, known as freerolls, have become more and more
popular with online players, and have proven to be of the most
effective ways for online poker rooms to get people to try out
their product. In the past year the online poker community has
witnessed the arrival of free daily tournaments with pay-outs as
high as $1000 and as high as $3000 prize pools for weekly free
tournaments. The biggest freeroll to date was a $100,000 freeroll
held in Decemeber 2004. Empire Poker shares traffic with internet
poker giant Party Poker, together playing host to up to 75,000
online poker players on 10,000 tables every day. By expanding their
free tournament offering, Empire is partaking in the recent
promotional trend among online poker rooms of offering bigger
bonuses and other free cash incentives such as free tournaments
with large prize pools. According to the free poker tournament
schedule at SweetFreerolls, the four free Empire tournaments run
every day at 12 am, 3 am, 3 pm, and 7pm Eastern. The popularity of
poker continues to explode online and offline, thanks mostly to
ESPN's broadcasts of the World Series of Poker and the Travel
Channel's World Poker Tour. Even celebrities such as Ben Affleck,
Leonardo Dicaprio and Tobey Macguire have taken up poker recently.
With thousands of new players pouring onto the internet to play
poker every day, the various online poker rooms have gotten very
serious in their competition for new customers. This has lead to
what SweetFreerolls calls "the golden age of free poker online." |
